Margaret Harrington papers, 1935-2002, bulk, 1935-1937.

Collection of correspondence, newspapers clippings and photographs concerning the career of Margaret Harrington with the Works Progress Administration in Washington from 1935 to 1937. She served as supervisor of Women's and Professional projects for Eastern Washington and the collection primarily documents her work with the WPA. There are several photographs present from the WPA, but the collection also contains a photograph of Mrs. Harry Baer and some family information supplied by Margaret Harrington's daughter, Virginia Bush.

The Works Progress Administration was created by federal legislation on May 6, 1935 to provide jobs for the unemployed who were able to work. Harrington was born Margaret Bishop in Colfax, Washington in 1894. She married Jason Robert Harrington in 1914 and when he died in the 1930s, she got a job working for the WPA. She resigned that position in 1937 and then moved to Lewiston, where she worked for the Idaho Dept. of Public Assistance until her retirement in 1958.
